2012-2013 Science Independent Research Project (IRP)


Our school will not be conducting a traditional science fair this school year. Instead, students will be doing independent research projects. Therefore, students will NOT be required to create a backboard display. The requirements are as follows.
  • The independent research project will be completed as part of the science class and will count as 2 test grades and honors credit.
  • Student projects will be embedded into the course.
  • Students will be assessed on a research paper (one test grade) and a PowerPoint presentation (one test grade).

Frequently Asked Questions

What if a student is not enrolled in a science class during the 2012-2013 school year?
  • The students is not required to complete an IRP.
What if a student is enrolled in more than one science course in the 2012-2013 school year?
    • The student will consult with the teachers and will be assigned the project in only one course. The IRP grades will be exempted in the other course(s).
How do I submit my research paper?
  • Your science teacher will provide you with a class ID and password for turnitin.com.
